Beyoncé Wins Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammy Awards
Beyoncé finally secured the Album of the Year award for Cowboy Carter at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. This historic win comes more than two decades into her career, marking a significant milestone for the artist. Cowboy Carter was born out of Beyoncé’s experience of being excluded from the country genre as a Black woman from the South.

As she accepted the award, Beyoncé became visibly emotional, sharing the moment with her daughter, Blue Ivy. “I feel so honored and grateful,” she said through tears. “It’s been so, so many years.” Staying true to the album’s theme, Beyoncé dedicated her Album of the Year win to Linda Martell, a legendary country singer featured on Cowboy Carter. “I hope we continue moving forward and breaking down doors. God bless you all,” she added.
Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter triumphed over a strong lineup of nominees, including:
- New Blue Sun – André 3000
- Short n’ Sweet – Sabrina Carpenter
- Brat – Charli XCX
- Hit Me Hard and Soft – Billie Eilish
- The Tortured Poets Department – Taylor Swift
- The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess – Chappell Roan
- Djesse Vol. 4 – Jacob Collier
Breaking Records
In 2023, Beyoncé became the most awarded artist in Grammy history with 32 wins, yet she had never won Album of the Year until now. Before this, her only major category win was Song of the Year for Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) in 2010.
At last year’s Grammys, Jay-Z addressed this issue when he accepted the Global Impact Award from the Recording Academy. “Obviously, music is subjective, but some things just don’t add up. I don’t want to embarrass this young woman, but she has more Grammys than anyone—yet she had never won Album of the Year,” he said, gesturing towards Beyoncé. “Even by your own metrics, it doesn’t make sense.”
A Record-Breaking Night
With the 2025 Grammy nominations, Beyoncé made history yet again, becoming the most-nominated artist in the show’s history. She took home 10 additional awards, including:
- Best Country Album – Cowboy Carter

- Best Pop Solo Performance – Bodyguard

- Best Melodic Rap Performance – Spaghettii (feat. Linda Martell & Shaboozey)
- Best Country Solo Performance – 16 Carriages
